Table Rock State Park Pickens, SC
This photo was taken in June while camping at Table Rick State Park
My husband takes me camping for my birthday each year. He picks a place that I can take pictures and just enjoy his company and Gods beautiful creation. This year we went to Table Rock State Park in South Carolina, a beautiful place. As we were driving around we stopped to view the beauty of the mountain and there was an information sign. The sign gave a little history of how the mountain got its name.
It read, The Cherokee called Table Rock Sah-ka-na-ga, meaning The Great Hills of God. The physical environment helped shape their spiritual beliefs that features an enormous spirit who loomed over this mountain range. His shadow formed a bluish haze over the mountain range, from which it derived its name Blue Ridge. The names of the two dominate landforms you see in the picture, Table Rock and Stool Mountain, remind us of how their belief system included their physical surroundings. They believed that the spirit sat on the lower Stool and ate off the higher, flatter Table Rock Mountain. Settlers heard the story and preserved the legend when naming these landmarks.
God is all around us. We do not need to see a bluish haze to realize that - we just need to keep in His word and continually invite Him into our lives.
May you see Gods presence in your life today and always.
