"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. (Hebrews11:1-3) Hebrews 11:6 goes on to tell us He rewards those who honestly seek him. I have read many devotionals using these verses and heard a few sermons as well. Most people will tell you not to worry. God will take care of His children. I agree; God does take care of me. I agree that worrying will not add a single day to my life. I also agree that worrying does not accomplish anything constructive. (Mat 6) Where I tend to disagree or maybe not even disagree but just differ in experience is this. Do I have faith that God will work things out. Yes, I have faith that all thing will work for good. That good does not mean though that I will always have a job or that my business will prosper. Those things could happen, but that is just normal life here on earth. That good does not mean that my health will always be fine. My health could be fine or better then fine. I could live a long, very active life free from illness, pain and suffering. That does not mean that my children will always make wise choices. They could make a wise choice that is for them to decide. That does not mean my home will not be destroyed by vandals. That does not mean I will not loose someone who is very dear to me. Gee, as Sandra Bulluck would say in her movie Ive already done that havent I.
I have to ask then what does it mean to be taken care of. What does it mean when he tells us even the lilies are clothed in more elegance. (Mat. 6:28) I then ask myself what my Father is concerned with the most. It is my Spirit. He wants me to follow Him in truth and in Spirit. If I follow Him in truth and Spirit then all will be fine in other words my relationship with our Father will be in good shape. (John4:23) Yes, trouble will still or could still follow. I live in this world even though I am not part of this world. (I Peter 4) I do not follow my Savior so that He can Heap treasures for me here on this world. I look forward to my reward in heaven. (Mat.6:20)
So the next time you hear a devotional or a sermon and you come away feeling like you some how have not lived a life according to Gods will. You feel a little like Cinderella. Check your short comings make sure you are working on them, we all have them. Pray continually, my favorite verse (Eph. 6:18 and Luke 18:1). And realize God is concerned with your heart and your next life with Him. You will have that mansion its address is where termites can not destroy it. Please keep in mind faith is the essence of things we wish for, the proof of things that have been not seen. Faith is not the materialization of goods that we can use here on earth.
